DEVELOPER TOOLS / SYSTEMS
devprep
A cross-platform planner and installer for a curated development workstation toolkit.

- Built with
- Python / JSON catalog / Bash / PowerShell / Native package managers
The idea
Preparing a development machine repeatedly involves the same dependency ordering and platform-specific package choices. devprep exposes that work as a readable plan, with explicit unavailable packages, execution records and tool-specific next steps.
How it works
A dependency-aware Python planner maps catalog entries to eleven package-manager adapters and bounded installation recipes. Separate platform detection, planning and execution layers support dry runs, JSON plans, custom selections and result reports.
What’s implemented
- Full or custom selections of languages, compilers, editors, containers and scientific tools
- Package-manager mappings across major Linux families, macOS and Windows
- Dependency ordering, dry runs and machine-readable plans
- Per-tool execution status and failure reports
PROJECT STATUS / SETUP UTILITY
Where it stands
Initial workstation setup utility
- Initial implementation; adapter coverage does not mean installation testing on every distribution
- Available versions depend on the platform, architecture and enabled package repositories
- Installation can change system packages and services; there is no automatic uninstall or rollback
