CRYPTOGRAPHY / EDUCATION
AESOP
A command-line and desktop cryptanalysis workbench for CTF exercises, coursework and teaching.
- Current state
- Teaching workbench
- Discipline
- Cryptography · Education
- Built with
- Python / Tkinter / Rich / SymPy / optional cryptographic libraries
The idea
Cryptology learning often means moving among many small tools and disconnected explanations. AESOP brings classical-cipher analysis, encodings, byte statistics and published educational techniques into a single workspace with an integrated field guide.
How it works
Python modules register capabilities through a shared command contract. Pure algorithm functions sit beneath CLI handlers, while a Tkinter interface builds forms from the same registry and runs long operations in a separate worker process.
What’s implemented
- Classical-cipher analysis and common encoding transformations
- Frequency, coincidence, entropy and byte-distribution inspection
- Published number-theory and cryptographic teaching exercises
- CLI, interactive session, graphical forms and built-in field guides
PROJECT STATUS / TEACHING WORKBENCH
Where it stands
Cryptanalysis teaching workbench
- An educational and authorized-research workbench, not a general method for deciphering secure modern cryptography
- Identification and automatic solving use heuristics and may yield ambiguous or unsuccessful results
- Some mathematical and cryptographic capabilities require optional dependencies
